OK, so I said I'd show you the hearts when finished. They really were quick and easy. I cranked out a bunch of them to attach to Aaron's AWANA shirt for Valentine's Day. This is what they look like. Sweet, huh? Originally I shared that the pattern came from "Favecrafts.com". Not true. The pattern actually came from a great blog site called: littlebirdiesecrets.blogspot.com. As I said, I cranked out a bunch of them. Was truly proud of myself. I attached them all over his AWANA shirt - front and back. I thought he looked so sweet. However....... I'd like to share some very valuable information you. Information that had not even crossed my mind prior to making these lovely little hearts. Eleven year-old boys DO NOT like crochet hearts attached to ANY kind of shirt......EVER! I learned this the hard way. He didn't say anything about it when he put the shirt on. He just put his jacket over it and off we went. I dropped him off at AWANA and said, "Have fun!" (Just so you know, I didn't come up with the heart idea. No sir. The flyer that came home with the kids the week before said, "Wear as many hearts as you can for Valentine's Day." I simply complied.) Man was I in trouble. When I went in to pick him up he was pulling those puppies off of there as quickly as he could. I asked him why he was doing that. His reply was, "Mom! Dudes don't wear hearts on their shirts." Apparently he planned to leave the jacket on all night, only the room got too hot and he had to take it off. I had very carefully used safety-pins and pinned each one on from the inside using between 1-3 pins. You know, so they would lie flat on his shirt. Unfortunately he was given a hard time by the other boys. He couldn't get the hearts off and so he put his jacket back on and suffered. By the time I got there all the kids were gone, so he just started pulling as hard as he could to get them off. Nothing quite like the wrath of an 11-year-old boy who has been thoroughly embarrassed. I figured the best thing to do was apologise. So I said, "I guess I keeping forgetting how old you are." His reply was, "Apparently you also forgot I'm not a girl." This was said with much disdain. Oh well, live and learn. Guess I won't be making shamrocks to attach to his shirt.........
Well, you can send the hearts this way next time. I know plenty of girls who would be trilled to wear them. :)
