Have any of you out there had to live through a remodel? Well, we're going through that right now. Our home was built in 1973 and had only one owner until we bought it this past September, 2009. Everything about the place was 1973. Carpet, wall-paper, counter tops, etc. As soon as we moved in, we painted the living room, dining room, hall ways and kitchen. We had to replace the appliances right away. They were all in the 70's "harvest gold". I may have kept them, if they worked......Nah, I wouldn't have. They were way too ugly and totally not energy
efficient. So, we replaced them with new stainless steel stuff. Very nice, but a booger to keep clean. We have already replaced the flooring throughout the house, so now we're working on the
kitchen cabinets, counter tops, back splash and sink. The counter tops were a lovely, yellow and white marble effect laminate :( The back -splash is a solid "harvest gold" as you can see in the picture. I'm not sure what color stain was used on the cabinets, but they're really
pitiful. Anyway...it is so exciting to be replacing this stuff. We tried to be as thrifty as we could without looking tacky. So, we're having the cabinets refaced rather than replaced. We are, however, replacing the counter tops and back-splash. We decided to go with a product called "
Silestone" for the counter tops and we're using glass, mosaic tiles for the back-splash. I'll be taking pics next week to show you the progress and the products. In the meantime, my sweet hubby has removed the marbled laminate from the counter tops, and has taken off most of the back-splash. This little process has taken him days to do and has created quite the mess.

I have everything stuffed on one narrow counter top for the time being. Next week, when the
cabinet guys come in, everything will be in the garage. Hubby and I, and Aaron are going to set up a counter top area in the garage. It should be fun cooking on the stove inside and making coffee and toast and stuff in the garage. Also.....I'm not looking forward to the dust!
This picture is looking out my kitchen window. If you look very closely, between the tall pine on the left and the two smaller ones on the right, the white fuzzy thing is Mount St. Helen. Wish I could take better pictures. Also, wish I knew how to draw arrows so you could see. Later everyone. Have a great day! It's FRIDAY!!!!!!
